Florida and the Great Housing Mismatch | Call me now!
Florida offers a powerful lesson in what I often call the 'great housing mismatch.' Even with homes available, the real challenge is aligning properties with what buyers genuinely want—and can afford—across different life stages and price points. Over my years as a real estate broker in Florida, I’ve watched our market evolve into one where affordability goes far beyond the sticker price. Insurance costs, HOA dues, ongoing maintenance, weather risks, and even the realities of needing a car all play a big role in whether a home truly works for someone. I’ve always believed that thriving communities depend on mobility—neighbors being able to downsize, upsize, or simply move closer to what suits them best, whether that’s a cottage, townhouse, or apartment nearby. The big question for us in Florida: Will the next generation be able to step into the homes that are here now, or will we need broader choices in size, location, and price to keep our neighborhoods vibrant? It’s a challenge I embrace daily, helping clients find not just a house, but a fit that really works for their lives.
