Attention Delta County Residents,

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is offering free radon test kits to Colorado residents — one per household while supplies last. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can seep into homes through cracks and openings in foundations. It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, so testing is the only way to know your home’s radon levels.

In Colorado, about half of homes have radon levels above the EPA’s recommended action level of 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). Because of our state’s geology and soil composition, radon is found at elevated levels across much of Colorado.

Testing your home can be an important step in protecting your health . High levels of radon can increase the risk of lung cancer, even in non-smokers as some studies have shown .
