I remember making my first cold call.

I remember taking my first listing.

I remember door knocking 100 doors a day when I first got into the business.

I remember the clients who took a chance on me when I was brand new. (And the ones who said no.)

I remember the mistakes, the awkward conversations, the learning opportunities, and all the moments where I was figuring things out as I went.

As yall saw last week, Odi Carbajal joined MKT Realty Co and I’m his broker.

Watching him start his real estate career has brought back a lot of those memories.

Over the past week, we’ve worked on prospecting, lead follow up, database building, time management, scripting, marketing, contracts, and the compliance side of the business.

One thing I’ve noticed about Odi is that he’s willing to take action before he feels fully prepared.

I still remember one of the first pieces of advice my mentor Sharles Edwards gave me:

“Get comfortable being uncomfortable.”

Another mentor told me:

“Fail faster!”

At the time, neither sounded very encouraging. Looking back, they were both right.

Making calls when you’re not sure what to say.

Having conversations before you’re comfortable.

Going on appointments before you feel ready.

Most people wait until they feel confident. The people who build big businesses usually start before they are.
