Low Energy, High Comfort: Sloths prefer trees that are easy to climb and provide ample cover. They typically choose slow-growing, sturdy trees with lots of leaves, such as the cecropia or fig tree, for comfort and security.

Safety First: Sloths are vulnerable to predators, so they tend to select trees that offer the most protection. The leaves and branches of their chosen trees help conceal them from predators like jaguars or harpy eagles.

One Tree, One Spot: Once a sloth picks a tree, it’s likely to stay in the same spot for long periods. They move very slowly and rarely switch trees unless necessary for food or safety.

Food Supply: Sloths also choose trees based on their diet.

Slow Movement: Sloths move very slowly through the trees, often taking several hours to travel from one tree to another, which is why they are particular about the trees they choose—they don’t want to waste energy unnecessarily.
