This month, we would like to take some time to recognize the diversity and rich cultural heritages of our residents and associates. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) selected the overarching theme for 2022’s to be Black Health and Wellness. We asked some of our associates to reflect on this year’s theme and what it means to them. Here's what they had to say:
“Prioritizing my health, both physically and mentally, has become a little easier as the years progressed – I’ve seen the value in ensuring that the necessary steps are being made to nurture the one body, mind, and soul that we are given.” – Orlando Boone
“Being a Black woman motivates me in every aspect of my life. I believe there is a strength, compassion, and resilience that comes with my heritage and keeps me motivated to be the best I can be, mentally and physically.” – Maria Jordan
“Cardiovascular disease kills 50,000 African American women annually. This is a statistic that has personally affected my family. Thirty minutes to an hour of daily cardio helps improve my heart health, clear my head, and naturally boost my energy for the day.” – Fallon Thompson
