First Baptist Church – Denton: AGAIN
Over a week ago, I received a cease‑and‑desist letter from the elder board of First Baptist Church, Denton. The letter banned me from church property and prohibited me from contacting church leadership.
I have only told TRUTH, which the elder board seems to not want told.
Since then, a woman I have known for 63 years—someone whose life and faith I deeply respected—passed away. Because of the restrictions in the letter, I was unable to contact anyone at the church to ask for a dispensation to attend her funeral in the sanctuary where I was baptized 57 years ago, and learned to tell the truth.
Unable to inquire myself, my 93‑year‑old father—who has served as a deacon for 48 years and is now Deacon Emeritus—contacted the Pastor for Senior Adults. My father first asked whether the pastor was aware of the cease‑and‑desist letter. He was not, despite the letter having been issued more than a week earlier. This raises the possibility/probability that the elder board did not inform church leadership or the congregation.
The pastor told my father he would look into the matter. He brought the question to Darren Brown, Executive Pastor (and member of the elder board), who said an elder would follow up. No elder contacted my parents. Instead, they later received the email included here.
In my view, the elder board was established as an ALL-POWERFUL, centralized authority structure that ultimately strongly shields Senior Pastor Jeff Williams.
Williams had previously faced allegations of creating a toxic work environment and was terminated by the Personnel Committee after an extended investigation. The Deacon Board, chaired by Larry Brewer, reversed that decision without hearing from the Personnel Committee, despite the investigative process requiring it. The Personnel Committee was subsequently SACKED.
When the elder model was presented to the congregation, the search team stated that elders would make all major decisions for the church. However, in this situation, the board appears to have abdicated its authority to the church’s legal counsel.
Scripture speaks directly to internal disputes among believers:
1 Corinthians 6:7–8
7 To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? 8 But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers.
What is occurring at First Baptist Church Denton raises serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and alignment with biblical principles.
Is this a church, or a 3-month-old elder board playing church?
