The VA has officially clarified updates to their Minimum Property Requirements (MPRs) effective for new appraisals ordered on and after 05/01/2026.

✔️ Non-habitable outbuildings like barns, sheds, and detached garages no longer have to meet safe, sound, and sanitary standards
✔️ Lead-based paint concerns on those structures for homes built before 1978 are no longer required items
✔️ Non-vented fireplace requirements are being removed 🔥
✔️ Radon certifications for new construction will no longer be required
✔️ Paint conditions for homes built after 1978 will now be considered cosmetic 🎨

💥 Translation?
Fewer appraisal conditions. Smoother transactions. More opportunities for VA buyers and sellers to move forward with confidence. Any specific MPR requirements noted by the VA appraiser will still apply.
