๐Ÿšœ Moving Mountains at Biochar ๐Ÿšœ

Big progress happening at the Douglas County Biochar Facility.

Together with our trade partner ESI Excavation, the team is in full production mode, reshaping the site and moving over 60,000 cubic yards of earth to prepare for the next phases of construction.

This is the type of work that doesn't always make the final project photos, but it is where successful projects are built. Every cut, fill, grade, and compaction effort today creates the foundation for everything that follows.

Current operations include: โ€ข Scrapers moving material across the site โ€ข Motor graders fine tuning elevations โ€ข Bulldozers pushing and balancing grades โ€ข Water trucks maintaining moisture for compaction โ€ข Loaders supporting material handling operations โ€ข Survey, testing, and quality control teams ensuring every lift meets specifications.

Watching multiple pieces of heavy equipment work in sync across a site of this scale is impressive. The coordination between operators, superintendents, surveyors, engineers, and labor crews is what keeps production moving safely and efficiently.

A huge thank you to the ESI team and everyone involved in making this progress possible. We are excited to keep pushing forward and transforming this site into a facility that will support innovative environmental solutions for years to come.

Excited to see another project move from planning into construction.

We recently started work on the Douglas County Biochar Facility in Sedalia, Colorado. Current activities include erosion controls, sediment basin construction, topsoil stripping, and preparation for major grading operations.

What makes this project unique is its purpose. The facility will produce biochar, a carbon rich material that can improve soil health, increase water retention, and help capture carbon for the long term.

As a construction project manager, it is always rewarding to watch months of design, permitting, procurement, and coordination turn into real progress in the field.

Looking forward to the next phases as we move into grading, utilities, foundations, and vertical construction.

I am proud to share that an article I wrote for the Malta Chamber of Construction Management has been published in their magazine.

The article explores a topic I have become increasingly passionate about: the recognition of Construction Management as a profession in its own right.

While architecture and engineering have centuries of established history, construction management is a relatively young discipline that emerged from the growing complexity of modern projects.

Yet today, the successful delivery of complex infrastructure, public works, and private developments depends heavily on the leadership, coordination, planning, and risk management that construction professionals bring to the table.

Writing this piece was also a reflection of my own professional journey, especially after earning the Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential and revisiting the history and evolution of our profession.

As our industry continues to modernize through technology, lean practices, integrated delivery, and stronger collaboration, I believe construction management will only continue gaining recognition globally.

Grateful to the Malta Chamber of Construction Management for the opportunity to contribute to this conversation.
