We are excited to announce the winners of the contest! It was difficult for us to choose winners because every entry we received was a beautiful insight into the lives of our residents and why they love where they live. We are so grateful to everyone who participated in this contest and enjoyed getting to see your entries.

Although we had planned for only two winners, we are announcing three! The winners are:

🥇 1st Place:

Nyria and her son love living at for many reasons: Nyria gets to make friends at the fitness center while reaching her fitness goals and can get some work done by the pool while her son plays outside with his dad or other kids in the community. Their dog also has plenty of room to run around in Cortland Duluth's bark park!

🥈 2nd Place: and

Joe moved into when his "pretirement" phase called for downsizing from a house to an apartment that leaves behind the costs of home ownership in exchange for more amenities, attentive leasing and service teams, and walkability. On top of the on-site amenities like the fitness center, pool and heated spa, and resident clubhouse, he loves walking along the river to nearby cafes and dinner spots.

shared how helped her following being displaced from her home of 19 years after it was flooded by a burst pipe. Her new apartment, the monthly events, regular fitness classes, and helpful on-site team have turned a tragic situation into an exciting new chapter with new friends, beautiful views, and a team that is there for whatever she needs.

We shared each winner's entry to our Story, and we hope you'll take a moment to watch them when you can. Congratulations, winners, and thank you to everyone who participated!

It takes a lot of hard work to keep our communities beautiful and running smoothly year-round, and we couldn't do it without our service teams!

Our teams around the country wrapped up another successful last week! We are so proud of our associates coming together to help out their local communities by providing meals to people experiencing food insecurity and cleaning up spaces that are built to provide assistance to those in need.

This is an opportunity for us to reflect not only on the theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” but also on how Cortland is one of countless organizations whose members are connected to the history this month celebrates.

This month, we’re highlighting six of our associates who shared their relation to a Black history maker — from prolific and award‑winning musicians Billy Strayhorn and Oscar Sheppard, to historic baseball player Dennis “Bose” Biddler, to Dr. Edwin A. Thompson, founder of Atlanta Metropolitan State College, and to William Still, an abolitionist credited as the father and primary architect of the Underground Railroad.

Happy ! The 2025 National Black History Month theme is "African Americans and Labor", highlighting the invaluable contributions of African Americans in the workforce. It reminds us of the countless individuals whose dedication to turning their ideas into innovations made the world a better place, despite being met with significant social and economic challenges.

Here are just some of the historical figures whose stories still inspire us to pursue greatness no matter what may try to stand in the way of achieving it.
