✨ Feature Friday ✨ 📜 Colorado History Tidbit — July 31 ⛈️

On the evening of July 31, 1976, a powerful, slow-moving thunderstorm dropped nearly 12 inches of rain within a few hours over the Big Thompson River Basin near Estes Park.

The rainfall sent a devastating flash flood through the narrow Big Thompson Canyon, destroying hundreds of homes and businesses and claiming 144 lives. The tragedy occurred just one day before Colorado celebrated its 100th birthday and remains one of the deadliest natural disasters in our state’s recorded history.

Today, we remember the victims, survivors, first responders and communities forever changed by the Big Thompson Flood of 1976. 🏔️❤️
