Dysautonomia International is a non-profit that seeks to improve the lives of individuals living with autonomic nervous system disorders through research, physician education, public awareness and patient empowerment programs.

If you’re like me, you may not have heard of dysautonomia. I realize that, not knowing about dysautonomia is a privilege, in the sense that myself and my loved ones have not experienced this condition.

Dysautonomia is an umbrella term used to describe several different medical conditions that cause a malfunction of the Autonomic Nervous System. The Autonomic Nervous System controls the "automatic" functions of the body that we do not consciously think about, such as heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, dilation and constriction of the pupils of the eye, kidney function, and temperature control. People living with various forms of dysautonomia have trouble regulating these systems, which can result in lightheadedness, fainting, unstable blood pressure, abnormal heart rates, malnutrition, and in severe cases, death.

Dysautonomia is not rare. Over 70 million people worldwide live with various forms of dysautonomia. People of any age, gender or race can be impacted. There is no cure for any form of dysautonomia at this time, but Dysautonomia International is funding research to develop better treatments, and hopefully someday a cure for each form of dysautonomia. Despite the high prevalence of dysautonomia, most patients take years to get diagnosed due to a lack of awareness amongst the public and within the medical profession.

We donated $1200 to . (It was awhile ago, but I’m behind on posting.)

The Dumb Friends League is the largest community-based animal welfare organization in the Rocky Mountain Region.

Honestly, I usually get more excited to support smaller nonprofits, but first of all, it’s our clients’ choice where the money goes. Second of all, I know how much people love their animals and it can be very meaningful to provide support to the organizations who bring so much love by rescuing these animals so that they can come into our lives. And third, I happen to have a lot of love for someone who works there, so I want to send out some love to the people who do this challenging work.

Please don’t lose sight of how many homeless animals need our help and are euthanized on a regular basis. Do your best to adopt. Do your best to only take on animals who are right for your home and lifestyle. Do your best to follow the advice of trainers and shelter staff to set these animals up for success in your home.

reunites families separated by ICE immigrant detention. This nonprofit provides a safe temporary space for guests who have been released from the immigration detention center in Aurora to allow them to reconnect with their loved ones before they transition to wherever their home may be. This welcome center offers healthy meals, phones, wifi, clothing, hygiene products, and transportation.

The new property valuations are coming out from the tax assessor this month and the increases have been hefty, which means that you will be paying a lot more property taxes. Many of the valuations will be incorrect and you can contest this! If you need help with the valuation of your property, reach out and I’m happy to help at no cost to you.
