This gal has packed a lot of life into the last couple of weeks: Alyssa graduated with her MBA from LSU and then flew home to close on her very first home today!

She approached her search in the same way she approaches the rest of her busy life: with curiosity, and as an opportunity for skill building. She wanted to be sure she understood what living in different communities and homes felt like, so we started with broad strokes to tour everything from mid-century mods to new builds; in established neighborhoods and more rural locations. Alyssa quickly honed in on what was most important for her, and her heart landed on a fresh build with big, beautiful windows and a pond literally in her back yard.

Alyssa told me she was nervous about what she didn’t know about buying a home. But after walking with her through tours, negotiations, inspections and contracts, today I witnessed a woman who has mastered the craft of buying a home confidently kick open yet another door to make her big, gorgeous life even bigger. And I couldn’t be more proud.

At yesterday’s final walk-through on her new house, I brought my junior client Maeve a little yellow tulip in an itsy-bitsy vase for her new bedroom.

I picked a yellow flower from my garden because it’s the color of friendship, and Maeve and her parents Erin and Andy have become my buddies as we’ve searched for their next house. Erin told me yellow is also Maeve’s favorite color, and I was delighted at how serendipitous it all was.

Much like their home search: we toured all over the metro thinking they’d have to leave a neighborhood they loved to find more space, but the perfect fit for this sweet family ended up being just a couple blocks from their old house, even on their daily walking route. Serendipity.

Today is closing day for Maeve and her parents, and I’m a little emotional for my friends as they move into a space that was meant for them. Give ‘em a big congrats!!

Betty and Matt landed in Central Iowa a couple of years ago and have been renting while scoping out neighborhoods and touring open houses. They took their time learning because they knew the next place would be where they took root. Personality and charm were a must, and they found all of it in this 100+ year old craftsman.

And listen, this process wasn’t a cakewalk. Older homes come with maintenance and renovation chapters that each new owner commits to. But we brought in the professionals to move beyond assumptions and confirmed that this beauty is a solid, safe investment for them.

Despite all the excitement, Matt texted me last week that “this process has been so much simpler than our first time it almost feels like we’re doing it wrong.” The truth is they did everything right. They prepped to be ready to execute and were proactive; researching loan, insurance and neighborhood renovation options. took care of them from start to finish on the financing end, my team kept them tuned into every moving part, and I stood next to them every step of the way to advocate for what was most important to them.

I’m handing Betty and Matt the keys to their new house today, and I am over the moon thinking about all the front porch swings, back yard parties and evenings in front of the fire that are incoming.
