Two of the most common questions asked by our clients are these: 1) The county GIS map shows my property boundary line going through my garage, is that right? And 2) I used an online app to show me my property boundary lines, can I take down trees based on the app?

The National Society of Professional Surveyors recently shared an excellent 2023 article from the Mississippi Board of Licensure addressing these questions. Take a read, it will help you better understand how online GIS maps and property apps differ from an on-the-ground land survey.

I am constantly astounded by the technology that surrounds us daily. We carry computers in our pockets, and there are cameras in our doorbells and thermostats that adjust the temperature in your house based on whether or not you are at home.

Becker County’s GIS system is good, but is less accurate where fewer surveys have been done. In a few places, it’s off by 100 feet or more, always in places where no survey information exists.

We are celebrating 75 years, come join us! Our firm was founded in 1946 by Land Surveyor Carl J. Nedberge and has continuously provided land surveying services since then. Wow, how cool is this?! Governor Walz today signed an official proclamation that this week is "Surveyor's Week" in Minnesota. This is super cool for the MN land surveying profession and we hope that this will bring attention to benefits of and career opportunities in our profession. For fun, do some online research about the history of land surveying and see if you can find out how long ago the first land ownership record was recorded.

It's National Surveyors Week!! This week is designed to promote and celebrate the interesting history and career of land surveying and we are here to help celebrate. Did you know that MN has only 584 licensed land surveyors? What does that mean? There's room for more, of course! This week we will share some meaningful information about our profession and hope that it inspires a conversation with a family member or friend. If you know someone who loves math, history, working outdoors and problem-solving, please suggest they research becoming a licensed land surveyor. More information to come!
