Northwestern Puritan Subdivision is a small development in the larger neighborhood called Harmony Village. Our subdivision was platted out of what was at the time Greenfield Township in Wayne County. Northwestern Puritan Sub was approved for platting by Wayne County on July 18th, 1923. We were platted in the Southwest ¼ of the Northeast ¼ of Section 17 of Greenfield Township. Lee Baker Co. in 1923. The subdivision opened for development in November of 1923 and was his 7th development in the area which himself and local real estate developers were calling, College Park. Our streets were first voted to be paved on during June of 1927. Paving notices were sent out ahead of time to inform all “those who lived on streets to have their wires, pipes, cables, conduits, and make all water and gas pipe connections and the like therein before the work of paving such streets or public places is commenced.”
When the City of Detroit annexed Greenfield Township into the city, street names were changed. Our streets were originally called Sheffield Avenue, Clinton Avenue, and Bellavista Avenue. Our public streets are 60 feet wide and were renamed after the City of Detroit annexed Greenfield Township. Pinehurst – Originally Bellavista Ave. Monte Vista St. – Originally Clinton Ave. Manor St. – Originally Sheffield Ave.
