Community News 📍

Islandview, let’s talk about how our neighborhood is growing! There’s a new proposal on the table for a 48-unit affordable apartment building, specifically planned for the Butzel Family Recreation Center parking lot. 🏘️

At CMHC, we’re all about more affordable housing, but we also know that Butzel is a neighborhood gem. This project is a City of Detroit initiative, and it’s sparking a really important conversation: How do we bring in more neighbors while protecting the community spaces we already love? 🤝

It’s all about balance. We want to make sure the Rec Center stays accessible and vibrant while addressing the real need for stable housing in Detroit. Your voice matters in this: keeping our neighborhood a "Neighborhood of Choice" means staying involved as these projects develop.

We’ll keep you posted on upcoming community meetings where you can share your feedback IRL. In the meantime, if you have questions about what’s happening in the area, feel free to inbox us! 📩

How do you think we can best balance adding new housing with keeping our community centers accessible for everyone?

Home Team Update 🏠

Building on a 150-year legacy isn’t just about looking back: it’s about moving forward with intention. For over a century and a half, the Church of the Messiah has been a heartbeat in Islandview, and at CMHC, we’re proud to carry that torch into the future.

We’ve got some exciting progress to share on our Bellevue Village project! 🏗️ We are officially moving closer to bringing more Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) to the neighborhood in 2026. This project is more than just bricks and mortar; it’s about creating an essential anchor for economic stability and long-term wellness for our neighbors who need it most.

Our mission has always been about empowerment and making sure Islandview remains a "Neighborhood of Choice" for everyone. Whether it’s through recapitalizing our current homes or building new units like Bellevue Village, we’re committed to the fight for housing justice. We aren’t just building apartments; we’re building power and stability right here at home.

What does a "Neighborhood of Choice" look like to you?

Ever feel like the rent in Detroit is moving faster than you can keep up with? 📈

We see it happening all over: market-rate rents are climbing, making it harder for families to stay rooted. That’s why at CMHC, we’re all about 'The Peace of Mind Price.'

For our Home Team, stability isn't just about having a roof over your head; it’s about knowing your costs aren’t going to skyrocket next month. When your housing is stable, you have the breathing room to build your economic power, focus on your career, and invest in your family’s future. 🏡✨

We’ve been in Islandview since 1978, and our mission hasn’t changed: providing a solid anchor so you can thrive, not just survive.

✅ Fixed, affordable rates
✅ Community-focused support
✅ A foundation for your legacy
