Each year, property owners in Michigan have the opportunity to review city assessor rolls and to appeal their assessed property values. Many property owners do not take advantage of this opportunity because the petition and appeal process can be time consuming, and significant amounts of data may be necessary to convince an assessor to reduce the assessed property value. At SEMCORC, we are committed to helping property owners reduce their property taxes, by making the best data-driven case for reducing their property's assessed value, subsequently lowering their property taxes after millages are applied. In many cases, we petition the city assessor to reduce the State Equalized Value(SEV) of the property, and also file appeals to the Michigan Tax Tribunal on behalf of the property owner.

Remember, ALL Michigan taxpayers are paying for today's Michigan primary so ALL registered voters should consider making an effort to vote. We have an open primary, and, as usual, there is lot at stake this year, so please make your voice heard. Then, treat yourself to a small reward. Don't over do it, though. It's still the Lenten season...

Dear Property Owner,
Each year, from February 1st through the 15th, property owners in Michigan have the opportunity to review city assessor rolls and to appeal their assessed property values. Many property owners do not take advantage of this opportunity because the petition and appeals process can be time consuming, and significant amounts of data may be necessary to convince an assessor to reduce the assessed property value. At the Southeast Michigan Community Resource Center, Inc.(SEMCORC), we help property owners to reduce their property taxes, by making the best data-driven case for reducing their property's assessed value, subsequently lowering their property taxes after local millages are applied. In order to successfully appeal your property assessment, the burden of proof is on the petitioner. If you are unable to perform the necessary steps to carry out the appeal process yourself, we are able to represent you and petition the city assessor to reduce the State Equalized Value(SEV) of your property.

SEMCORC designs appeal strategies to reduce the assessed values of properties throughout Metropolitan Detroit. As a result of our successful appeals to the Michigan Tax Tribunal, property assessment values have been lowered and taxpayers have received property tax adjustments or refund checks. Please see scanned picture of a $1,576.87 tax overpayment refund check that was recently sent to one of our local investors, resulting from our pursuit of fair assessment values on her over-assessed rental property in Southfield, MI. Contact us at [email protected] for information on how we can help you to reduce your property taxes.

SEMCORC has been awarded a $17,000 grant from Lutheran Housing Support of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod(http://www.lcms.org). This grant will be used to purchase and restore property on the east side of Detroit in the Osborn District, and will then be provided to low-to-middle income residents. We appreciate the generosity and confidence that Lutheran Housing Support has placed in SEMCORC.
