Our first two investment funds are winding down.
We started Century Partners in 2015 with a simple idea: Detroit’s neighborhoods deserved investors willing to see value before the rest of the market did.
At the time, plenty of people were buying hundreds or even thousands of houses sight unseen, putting little, if any, money into them, and betting that the hype around Detroit would eventually create a buyer.
We wanted to do something different.
We focused on historic neighborhoods where legacy residents had preserved value, fought for investment, and held their blocks together long enough for anyone paying close attention to see what was still there.
So we walked.
We walked and walked until we found these streets, these neighbors, and these homes. Then we put our time, our money, and our attention into developing them.
David Oluyemesi Alade and I are incredibly proud of what we’ve built. And we know there is still a lot more work to do in Detroit.
As these first two funds come to a close, we are working with some of Detroit’s most trusted people to find the next stewards of these homes.
We met Shea Hicks Whitfield before the first episode of Bargain Block ever aired. We have long been friends and supporters of her work shining a light on the opportunities for homeownership in Detroit’s neighborhoods.
Few people have done more to show the world the beauty, possibility, and value that exist on Detroit’s blocks.
