Along with passing the NY State Budget yesterday, the Legislature included a ban on the use of gas in residential new construction starting in 2026. Residential buildings up to 7 stories must be built without the use of gas appliances and heating units starting in 2026. Larger building construction will have to comply starting in 2029. The requirement for existing properties to comply with conversion from fossil fuels to electric was removed out of the current bill. You can keep your gas stove for now!
