I posted yesterday on "Printed Meat" and, of course there is cell-cultivated (lab grown meat products) and this is a followup to that, but the most significant fact is stated below - this needs to change, it needs to be disclosed when they are providing food to us and our children (baby food products, school lunches, Mc Donald's etc., Flemings etc.); there are risks and there needs to be stringent testing (none of this is happening at present).
It is critical to note: Restaurants do not have to disclose where they get their meat or if their meat is lab-grown.
Grocery stores will have to label their meat products, but what about other products - those should have the same label that is used for non-GMOs right on the front of the packaging.
Why is lab-grown meat bad?
These biologically active molecules could interfere with metabolism or have been linked to the development of certain cancers. Still, it is critical to note again: Restaurants do not have to disclose where they get their meat or if their meat is lab-grown. Ask the vendors at the farmers market if they grow their chickens, and if so, what practices they follow.
Experts in the food industry say it may take more than a year or two to see lab-grown meat on the shelves in grocery stores. Still, it could find its way into restaurants way sooner. Various media have reported that Bar Crenn, an upscale restaurant in San Francisco, will soon serve Upside Food's "chicken,” weaving it into its dishes. What is chilling, in truth, is that there are no rules mandating that restaurants disclose whether the chicken they use is lab-grown.
16 states that has banned cell-grown meat!
Is lab-grown meat actually worse for the environment?
The scientists also defined the global warming potential as the carbon dioxide equivalents emitted for each kilogram of meat produced. The study found that the global warming potential of lab-based meat using a purified media is four to 25 times greater than the average for retail beef.
