Hastings-on-Hudson may be getting new rental housing for adults 55 and over on a property that’s been vacant for over 20 years.

The developer, Continental American RE, is proposing to build 60 new apartments on the site of the former St. Matthew’s School, which would be demolished if the project moves forward.

The plan includes a mix of one- and two-bedroom units, with 9 of the apartments slated for affordable housing.

There would also be a clubhouse with a fitness center, community kitchen, game room, lounge and bike storage. Plus, outdoor grills, a bocce court and a pickleball court. And there will be parking for 87 cars.

Projects like this bring up a lot of questions. Like, what should happen to long-vacant properties? How much housing should villages like Hastings add? And where do longtime Westchester residents go when they want to downsize, but stay close to family and the communities they know and love?

This project still needs approvals and variances from the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson, so it’s far from a done deal. But it’s definitely one to watch.

So, what do you think about building new 55-plus rentals on this old school property? Let me know in the comments.

Owning a home in downtown New Rochelle may be more possible than a lot of people think.

There are going to be a lot of watch parties tonight throughout the county for the Knicks vs. Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. And there’s a special one happening at the home of our Westchester Knicks!

Tonight at 7pm, the Westchester County Center is hosting a special Knicks Watch Party. The place will be packed. So grab your tickets now at Ticketmaster.com, because they’ll be going fast. Kind of like a Kat to Brunson fast break!

So, will you be watching the game at the County Center or somewhere else? Or will you be there in person at the Garden? Let us know in the comments.

One of Westchester’s most fun events is happening on Saturday, June 6 at New Rochelle’s Ward Acres Park.

It’s Goatfest 2026.

From 10am to 2pm, there will be live music, food trucks, local vendors, environmental exhibits, fun activities and goats...lots and lots of goats...who’ll be helping with park maintenance by eating their way through invasive plants in parts of the park.

It’s a fun way to bring people together, take care of the park and hang out with a bunch of goats. What could be better than that?

So, will you be attending Goatfest 2026? Let me know in the comments.

Cross County Center is about to look very different, and I think you’re going to like it. Construction has officially started on a 60,000 square foot retail expansion plus a brand new four acre public park on the north end of the property.

Two new buildings are going up. One is about 44,000 square feet over two levels and is expected to become a flagship location for a national retailer. The other is about 14,000 square feet on one level.

But here’s what I really like about this. They’re not just adding stores. They’re building a four acre landscaped park with seating areas, green space, room for farmers markets, seasonal events and outdoor programming.

Cross County has always been a major mall here in Westchester since the 50’s. And it’s continually evolved and reinvented itself to where, today, it has more than 100 retail, dining and service tenants and draws millions of visitors each year.

This is a serious investment in Yonkers and the future of retail here in Westchester County. So, what do you think about this expansion at Cross County? Let me know in the comments.

When the weather gets warm in Westchester, one question comes up fast: Where should we eat outside?

And the good news is, there are dozens of restaurants across Westchester with outdoor dining.

Comment “OUTDOOR” and I’ll send you the list.

We’ve got restaurants Hudson River spots like Red Hat on the River in Irvington, 3 Westerly in Ossining and Harvest on Hudson in Hastings-on-Hudson.

Sound Shore spots like Barley Beach House in Rye and Kenny’s on the Water in New Rochelle.

And places like Bedford Post Barn in Bedford and Purdy’s Farmer and the Fish in Purdy’s.

That’s what makes outdoor dining in Westchester amazing. We can enjoy river views, beach views, patios, gardens, rooftops or a quiet table outside.

Comment “OUTDOOR” and I’ll send you the list of local restaurants that offer outdoor dining.

Farmers Market season is here. And Westchester has an amazing selection of markets from Bronxville to North Salem, Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow to Rye and basically everywhere in between.

Comment “FARM” and I’ll send you the list.

You can start in White Plains on Wednesday, with the Court Street Market.

Then, as the weekend gets closer, Hilltop Hanover Farm Stand in Yorktown Heights runs Thursday through Sunday.

And Saturdays are packed. There are markets in Bronxville, Chappaqua, Hastings, Larchmont, Ossining, Pleasantville, Peekskill and Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow.

And on Sundays, there are markets in Irvington, Mount Kisco, Muscoot Farm, Pelham, Rye, Scarsdale, Tuckahoe and Croton-on-Hudson.

So, whether you want fresh produce, local vendors, a morning walk through town or just a good reason to explore another part of Westchester, there’s probably a Farmers Market worth checking out.

Just comment “FARM” and I’ll send you the list.

Remember, dates, times and locations can change, so check before you go. And if there’s a Westchester Farmers Market I missed, please tell me in the comments because I want this list to be as useful as possible.
