From dreaming about flying to becoming an Instrument-Rated Pilot.

Today I proudly wear two bars on my shoulders but more importantly, I carry the knowledge, discipline, and confidence that this training has given me.

Thank you, Kareem, for being an exceptional instructor and mentor. You challenged me, believed in me, and raised the bar every step of the way. The lessons went far beyond passing a checkride, they helped shape the pilot I am becoming.

Onward to Commercial Pilot training. ✈️

Naples Aviation FBO is on another level: super clean, great food, and the staff actually makes you feel welcome as a pilot.

Today, I made two decisions that may have saved my life.

This morning, everything was set.
A long cross-country ahead: Palm Beach… Naples… back to Miami Executive.
5 hours of flying. Perfect weather. No reason for anything to go wrong.

I step into the aircraft.

Checklist.
Engine start.
Everything looks normal.

Then… the run-up.

The needle drops.
More than 200 RPM lost on two magnetos!

A small detail?
No.

A warning.

Without hesitation: we cancel.

A few hours later… second chance.

3 PM.
Another aircraft.

This time, I think, it has to work.

Preflight.
I turn on the battery.

Nothing.

I try extending the flaps.

Still nothing but the 3rd time it works...

And then that voice in my head:
“What if something bigger is hiding behind this?”

An electrical failure in flight.
A radio going silent.
Or worse.

Once again: canceled.

Two flights canceled.
Same day!

At first, I thought: just bad luck…

But the truth is different.

In general aviation, you don’t ignore warning signs.
You don’t negotiate with uncertainty.

Unlike aircraft built by Boeing or Airbus…
👉 You are the last line of defense between a problem and an accident.

Today, I didn’t fly.

But I did something many people struggle to do:
👉 walk away when it matters.

And sometimes…
that’s exactly what separates a bad day…
from a disaster that never happened.

I’ll be honest… 92% on my FAA Instrument Rating written doesn’t hit the same as the 97% I got on my Private Pilot 😅

But here’s the twist, this isn’t just a “regular” 92%.

This is a 92% without using Sheppard Air!

IFR is a completely different beast more procedures, more regulations, more depth. This time, I focused on truly understanding the material instead of just memorizing answers.

So yeah… maybe not a perfect score but definitely a solid step forward.

Now it’s time for the real challenge: the checkride ✈️

✈️ A moment I’ll never forget…

A few days ago, part of my training took me on a cross-country flight toward the Florida Keys and honestly, I wasn’t ready for what I was about to see.
From the cockpit, the colors were unreal. Shades of turquoise, deep blue, and crystal-clear shallows stretching endlessly beneath the wings. It looked like someone had painted the ocean. 🎨

Having grown up around the beauty of French Polynesia, I never thought I’d experience something that could even come close… but right here in Florida, I did.

And what made it even more surreal ?
Knowing that just beyond that horizon… Cuba was only a few miles away 🇨🇺
Moments like this remind me why I chose aviation.
Not just to fly but to witness the world from a perspective few ever get to experience.

Grateful for every hour in the sky. 🙏✈️

Today’s IFR training didn’t go exactly as planned, but it turned into a solid learning day.

We were supposed to review holding procedures and GPS-based approaches, but once airborne we realized the GPS system was missing a chip, meaning no RNAV approaches were possible. So we adapted and that’s what aviation is all about.

Instead, we flew a few ILS approaches and then headed back to the pattern for some landings. After spending so many hours in the flight simulator scanning instruments for my IFR, I was honestly relieved to see that I haven’t lost my touch. It felt great being able to transition from instrument approaches to short visual approaches smoothly.

It ended up being a really productive day to maintain proficiency and reinforce my confidence with ILS procedures and aircraft control. Always learning, always improving, and always loving this journey ✈️🔥
