In honor of Earth Day, the City of Dothan is hosting its 3rd Annual Hazardous Household Materials Clean-up Day on Saturday, April 25th, from 8:00 AM until Noon at the Westgate Recycling Drop-off Center, located at 2725 Choctaw Street.

Dothan residents may drop off hazardous materials such as household chemicals, solvents, paints, greases, lubricants, pesticides, and oils. Citizens may also drop off personal vehicle tires, batteries, unwanted electronic items, and personal records for secured destruction by the Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center. As an additional service to Dothan residents, citizens may drop-off prescription and other forms of unwanted pill-form medications (please no liquids or sharps material).

❄️🥶 Freezing temperatures are expected this week. If temperatures drop below 32°F, please take the following precautions to help prevent frozen pipes and potential water damage:

▪️Set your heat to 55–65 degrees and keep it on at all times
▪️Drip faucets (both hot and cold)
▪️Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around plumbing

The end of the week continues to trend a touch colder…and it was already locked in as being frigid! 🥶 Old Man Winter is officially rehired and he's starting Friday morning with a BANG.

We're looking at a full-on Southeast Deep Freeze - widespread 20s and even some 10s across much of Alabama, Georgia and North Florida. It’ll be cold enough to make you think about dripping those faucets and for iguanas fall out of trees across South Florida!

Plan ahead: protect tender plants in the landscape outdoors (add some heat like incandescent Christmas lights and then wrap/cover), bring in anything potted you care about, make sure hoses and outdoor pipes are drained and maybe give the dog an extra blanket or better yet, bring them indoors. This is the kind of morning where "I'll just run out real quick" turns into a full wardrobe change. 😂 You can get chilled to the bone in minutes!
