We still have hot days but the mornings are nice and cool. Gives us a bit of comfortable outdoor time to complete tasks!

The mower is running a little easier than it did in June. The week by week countdown to the last cut is in the comments.

Cool season grass, the kind most of us grow, has a thermostat. It grows fastest in mild air and slows as the soil cools, and by the first hard frost it simply stops. From here that is roughly six weekly mows, give or take a warm spell.

Two things to do with the time. Feed the lawn now, not in spring, because fall is when it grows roots instead of blades. And take the last cut a notch shorter than the summer height, so the grass does not lie down flat under snow and rot. The mower goes into the shed after that, and the leaves take over the job of covering the ground. 🍂
