New Orleans-The Bayou & The Baby Alligator
I will never say no to a trip to New Orleans. French & Spanish architecture, a vibrant art scene, and of course the food are all reasons enough to entice anyone to visit. I always stay in the French Quarter for convenience and safety but venturing out into the bayou is a must...on the bayou tour, the captain proceeded to hand us marshmallows which we fed to the alligators. It's horrifying watching them chomp their massive teeth down on the pillowy soft white treats...apparently the white attracts them. (reminder: don't wear bright colors in the bayou) After the excitement waned down and the remaining gators circling the ship swam lazily away, we were quietly enjoying the scenic views of the weeping trees and herons resting in the swamp when I saw the captain pull something out of the tiny closet on the boat. As he neared me, that something started to move and I screamed so loud the entire boat turned around.
He had a baby alligator in his hand...
I got over my fear eventually and even got to hold him at which my friend commented "That would make a nice wallet" I gave her a half-smile and thanked heavens that she didn't make a comment about eating it as we were the only Asians on that boat
As we were sailing toward land, I asked the captain what else was in that closet to which he replied "My mother-in-law and some ex-girlfriends"
