OVERNIGHT RAILROAD CROSSING CLOSURES PLANNED SEPTEMBER 18–21

Earlier this week, BNSF Railway’s work zone safety contractor notified the Village that an extensive maintenance project will occur between Friday, September 19 and Monday, September 21, 2026. This work, which extends from Hinsdale to Naperville, requires closure of three railroad crossings in Downers Grove:

*Maple Avenue
*Washington Street
*Forest Avenue

Here is the closure schedule:

*Friday, Sept. 18: 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday
*Saturday, Sept. 19: 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday
*Sunday, Sept. 20: 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday

Residents and visitors to Downers Grove and the Downtown area are encouraged to plan for additional travel time and use the Belmont Road underpass to cross the tracks, when possible. While it is unfortunate that notice of this work wasn’t provided sooner to allow for more effective coordination and communication, the Village appreciates BNSF’s investment in the maintenance of its railway infrastructure.
