Pączki Day (pronounced POONCH-kee) is a delicious Polish tradition celebrated on Fat Thursday, the last Thursday before Lent. In the U.S., it’s often observed on Fat Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday).
Pączki are rich, deep-fried doughnuts filled with sweet fillings like raspberry, custard, or prune, and topped with powdered sugar or glaze. The tradition started in Poland as a way to use up indulgent ingredients like sugar, butter, and eggs before the Lenten fast.
Today, it’s a beloved celebration of culture, community, and enjoying one last sweet treat before Lent begins.
