Some places that come up for sale are more unique than others. This one was special. Tucked in a mountain hollow between the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail, this oasis was in plan sight yet at the back of beyond. Many a thru hiker made a pitstop here. Photos lining the walls and letters strewn about tell a story of community and respite. This places had been hand built, scratched from the Earth by one man and any willing sole looking to take a break from the trail. Bunk houses, homemade saunas, vegetable gardens and community kitchens. The property is now under contract ( not my buyer unfortunately) and the new to be owner is saying they will keep it going. So if you know this place. I’m told it will continue to welcome hikers as it always has. Hopefully with a little catching up on maintenance.

PSA to all my past and future clients. There’s some down and dirty business that happens in places you don’t see. Im talking about your sewer lines. For many people this is buried or in a slab. For some it’s in a crawl space under your house. Depending on the age of your home the materials used for this sewer lines vary. My house was built in the 60’s and that means mine are cast iron. Think of your Lodge cooking pan in tubular form. If not maintained they rust. Rust is a breakdown of the metal causing it to get thinner and thinner. Eventually it wears so thin a hole is formed. Small at first it will grow if it goes unchecked. The point here is CHECK. Every once in a while go look at what’s under your house. Or hire someone to do it if you’re uncomfortable doing it or can’t convince a friend to do it for you. Older homes especially need this. It was 2 years between my checks in the crawl space. Finally, when you get work like this done. Look the people doing the work in the eye and thank them profusely! Most of us are not interested in doing the work that they are doing. While these types of bills are never fun to pay. Just remember that somebody else is working in a tight space dealing with your crap ( literally) so that you don’t have to. They deserve your gratitude. responded quickly and got the work done in a timely and expertly fashion. I can’t think that crew enough for their work and positive attitude.

From a real showing in the last couple of weeks. Not staged. This was in a closet. Fortunately, this house went under contract and won’t close until a later date. Happy Halloween 🎃

All my listings are special but sometimes a house comes along that just gives you all the feels. These sellers have put so much love and care into this home. It's time for them to move on but they're hoping to leave it to some loving people who will carry on and enjoy it as much as they have. Call your Realtor!
