Like a lot of people in Dubuque, I’ve been paying attention to the aftermath of this week’s storms.

But while most people were talking about downed trees and cleanup, I found myself wandering through the woods studying what happened.

Which trees broke.
Which trees bent.
Which ones somehow made it through untouched.

Maybe it’s the former teacher in me, but I’ve always been fascinated by cause and effect.

A storm has a way of revealing strengths, weaknesses, and things you never noticed before.

Update:
I looked up “Say wallahi, bruh, say wallahi.”

Apparently “wallahi” actually means “I swear to God” in Arabic… and if the internet is to be believed, it somehow entered current teen vocabulary through iShowSpeed 😂

So not only am I accidentally absorbing Gen Alpha slang against my will…

I’m apparently participating in a global linguistic phenomenon now.

Amazing.
