As I am here today, celebrating the incredible achievement of my daughter, Kamilla Tonique, in her nursing pinning ceremony before graduation, I can't help but reflect on the journey that brought us here.
Gratitude fills my heart as I thank God for granting me the honor of being Kamilla's mother. She is, without a doubt, an enhanced version of myself. While she bears a striking resemblance to me, her towering stature and her daddy's beautiful bow legs make her a unique and improved blend of our features.
Kamilla's journey through academia wasn't without its challenges. Despite her undeniable intelligence, she grappled with self-doubt, comparing herself to a twin who seemingly breezed through studies effortlessly. I had to consistently remind her that being different was not a flaw, and her unique way of processing things was her strength. In our home, I ensured each child had their dedicated space, complete with a personalized computer lab, and year-round tutors to provide them with the best education possible.
Her nurturing spirit became evident early on, especially when she chose to move back home to care for her father in his final days. Fearless and caring, she seamlessly transitioned from being her twin brother's cheerleader to a team trainer, displaying an innate ability to care for others.
Her fearlessness further manifested as she took charge, becoming the team captain in basketball, cheerleading, and softball. Even during our mother-daughter movie nights, she exhibited her bold spirit by choosing films with intense scenes, leaving me in awe of her fearlessness.
When the time came to decide on a college major, I didn't hesitate to suggest nursing. Despite her initial reservations about the difficulty, I saw in her a natural head nurseβa leader in the making. As she progressed through the program, she discovered a profound love for nursing, acknowledging its natural and effortless alignment with her skills.
Today, as Kamilla gets pinned as celebration for graduates in nursing, I want to express my gratitude for her resilience, strength, and the unwavering spirit that brought her to this moment. She has not only embraced her calling but has excelled in it, proving that her path, though challenging, was undoubtedly the right one. Thank you, Kamilla, for making us proud and for being the incredible nurse that you are.
