When my husband and I sold his home from his previous marriage, we were excited (and a little nervous) to buy our first home together. We thought we knew what to expect, but looking back, there were a few things we REALLY wish we had known before jumping in!
Swipe through to see what we learned—so you don’t make the same mistakes we almost did! ➡️
1️⃣ You don’t need 20% down.
2️⃣ As the buyer, you are in charge. (Advocate for yourself! & work with an agent that will advocate for you as well! )
3️⃣ Property taxes uncap when you move. (Ours went up more than we expected!)
4️⃣ Your first offer may not be accepted. (We learned this the hard way! We fell in love with a house and started making plans for furniture only for it to not get accepted and we were crushed )
5️⃣ Never skip the home inspection. (Trust me on this one! Sometimes to position yourself in a multiple offer scenario buyers will waive the inspection completely. Instead of doing this if you can do an inspection for informational purposes at least this way you know what you’re getting into. )
Buying your first home together is a huge milestone, and having the right information can save you stress, time, and money. If you’re thinking about buying, let’s chat—I’d love to help you avoid these common surprises! 💬
