The Smelter that built Durango!

Did you know: Long before it was a community dog park, the Durango Smelter was a major driver of the towns economy.

Built in 1882, the smelter processed Ore from surrounding mines and helped to establish Durango as a key hub in the region. The smelter was retired in 1930.
Later, the Smelter was used in the refinement of uranium, to be used for the Manhattan Project.
