The Gables is UNH's newest apartment complex. Although originally consisting of three buildings (A,B, and C) built in 1991, two more buildings (North and South) were added in 2006 to provide a significant increase in the amount apartment-style living available to students on campus. Now home to 1,026 sophomores, juniors, and seniors, The Gables was the scene of a live national television broadcast
of ABC's "Good Morning America" during the 1992 New Hampshire primary. The Gables apartment complex is located at 40 Gables Way, conveniently located behind Commuter Lot "A" and is connected to the central campus by frequent shuttle bus service or an easy walk. There are 199, three, four, five, six and seven person apartments housing 1,026 students. Each unit comes fully furnished with a complete kitchen and dining room, fully furnished living room and beds and bureaus for each residents. All units are equipped with the latest up-to-date technology of today--ResNet provides fast Ethernet connections to access the WWW and network connections to the university for on-line access to the library from one’s own apartment. Local phone service and private phone lines (one for each bedroom), cable television, on-site laundry facility which accepts Cat’s Cache only, and of course all heat and utilities are included in the your housing bill. On-site parking is available for students with demonstrated need and parking permits can be purchased from Parking Services. Smoking is prohibited in all buildings of The Gables Complex. At the Gables Apartment Complex, you will find mail and package services, two computer clusters, three laundry rooms, and a convenience store. Our large and unique community center lounge, equipped with a fireplace, is used for studying, functions, and student programming activities. There is also a large recreation room in the North Tower with areas for games, TV watching and group or individual studying. The Department of Housing is committed to providing a clean, safe and healthy living/learning environment. To that end, we are constantly upgrading and improving the facilities at The Gables. Such improvements include carpet replacement (8-10 per year), furniture replacement as needed, a "smart" heating system which changes fuels based upon demand and price to save energy and costs, security screens on all first floor apartments and privacy blinds in all apartments.
