Honoring Juneteenth at Heights LaSalle
At Heights LaSalle, we strive to foster an inclusive, multicultural, and multilingual community where residents from all backgrounds feel welcomed and valued. As part of that commitment, we recognize Juneteenth each year on June 19, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrating freedom, resilience, culture, and progress.
For residents interested in participating in local Juneteenth celebrations, here are a few events happening in the area:
• CCB Plaza – Durham Juneteenth Freedom Celebration A highly anticipated community celebration in downtown Durham featuring live entertainment, local vendors, and a showcase of Black excellence.
• Hayti Heritage Center A cornerstone of Durham's African American history and culture, often hosting special Juneteenth programs, arts performances, and community gatherings.
• Moore Square – Raleigh Juneteenth Festival curated by Taste of Black, this celebration features food trucks, music, games, and family-friendly activities.
Residents can also explore additional local celebrations through the Durham Juneteenth Festival Guide (https://www.juneteenthevents.us/durham), which highlights verified Juneteenth events taking place throughout the region.
As we commemorate Juneteenth, we encourage everyone to take time to reflect on its significance, celebrate the richness of our diverse community, and learn more about the history and contributions of African Americans.
Happy Juneteenth from the Heights LaSalle Team!
