Today marks one year that I have been sober. I had my last sip of alcohol (that I actually ended up wearing) on 6/5/2022. People ask me all the time: how and why I chose to go sober. It wasn’t a decision tbh. In short, I was a little too wild, and had to take a hiatus for two weeks, and that turned to a month, which turned to a year.

It’s not an easy journey as our culture, and society is so dependent on alcohol in a social aspect.

Things I learned along the way:

1. I never needed a drink to have fun- you are who you are, and people will either hate it or love it
2. I found so much more self confidence as I thought I needed alcohol to be social, and I learned that is far from the truth. I learned to really love who I am, and embrace it.
3. I can dance as much as I want, and still shut the place down
4. There’s no better feeling than waking up in the morning with no text messages or conversations I regret or cringe at Re-reading.
5. get yourself a mocktail or seltzer with a splash and cranberry and no one will no the difference
6. I regret ever asking sober people why they are sober. DON’T ASK SOMEONE WHY THEY’RE SOBER.

If you’re every thinking about going sober surround yourself with people who support you. My friends, and family were the most supportive people and respected my decisions.

Not sure if this is a lifestyle or what I’m doing, but I do know I take it day by day— with no pressure or expectations.
