Incredible night at the Quest for Freedom Fundraising Gala for the Underground Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, planned for Columbia, PA. πŸš‚βœ¨
Got to hear from Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Eugene Robinson, who shared pieces of his own family history tracing back before the Civil War, and architect Zena Howard, whose vision for the museum framed it as more than a building β€” a place designed to make people feel the story of courage, risk, and freedom. Got to meet them both afterward, which was a full-circle moment.
I ended up at a table full of Quakers for the evening β€” incredibly welcoming, and it hit differently knowing my daughters attend a Quaker Friends school. Made me realize how much I didn't know about Lancaster County's role in the Underground Railroad, and how close to home this history really is.
Leaving inspired to learn more and get involved with the museum's work. This is a project worth watching. πŸ™Œ

Spent the day on two wheels and the Schuylkill River Trail had all of it.
Warmed up around University City and Drexel before dropping onto the trail at 30th Street Station, then pointed the bike south toward the Art Museum. Had to stop for the obligatory Rocky steps selfie β€” then paid my respects to the man who did it first, Joe Frazier. Philly boxing history doesn't start and end with a fictional character.
Cruised past Boathouse Row, swung by my alma mater's boathouse (St. Joe's, forever home), then kept riding north through Manayunk β€” old stomping grounds. Passed an Amish family selling fruit on Main Street, told them I was from Lancaster now, and got a smile back. Small world.
Kept going through Conshohocken all the way to Norristown β€” where I was born. Historically Italian and Mexican, and you can still taste it. Stopped at a taco truck for al pastor and a Mexican Coke in the sun before heading back to Manayunk to eat and watch the river go by.
40+ miles, a lot of history, and a reminder of how many chapters of my life run along this river.

Some days you just know you'll remember forever. This was one.

I never thought I'd make it to a World Cup. The second they said Philly, I knew I had to go.

This city raised me. I've walked into these stadiums my whole life rooting for the home team β€” but this time I watched my home open its arms to the entire world, and I was overwhelmed with pride. The subways, the staff, the vendors, even the Philly PD β€” everyone said the same thing: they'd never felt energy like this.

I wore the Croatia kit for Luka Modrić, one of my favorites. As a proud African American who's never been able to trace exactly where my family came from, the love I felt from the Ghanaian fans was genuine, unfiltered, and beautiful. Two cultures celebrating completely differently — and honoring each other completely. A whole stadium fell so silent for a moment of remembrance you could hear a pin drop. I'll never forget it.

By the end of the night I was in tears. In a world of so much noise and uncertainty, this was a reminder that we can still gather, still celebrate, still show each other brotherly love.

No matter what happens for the rest of my life β€” that was a day I truly lived.

And the best part? I get to do it all again. Saturday. Fourth of July. Round of 16. Philadelphia. πŸ‡­πŸ‡·πŸ‡¬πŸ‡­πŸ¦…
