Does your technician clean your oil burner nozzle and put it back? Here's why that's a problem.
This little brass part is the nozzle. It's about the size of a thimble, and it decides how your oil boiler burns.
Look closely and you'll see numbers stamped on it. On this one:
๐ด 1.25 = gallons of oil per hour
๐ด 70ยฐ = the angle of the spray
๐ด B = the spray pattern
Its job is to turn heating oil into a fine, even mist. To do that, the passages inside are machined with real precision. Poke them with a wire or hit them with a brush and you can damage them without seeing a thing. What you will see later: soot, an oil smell, and a bigger fuel bill.
And even an untouched nozzle wears out after a season of hot oil under pressure. Cleaning can't fix wear.
A new nozzle costs a few dollars. That's why we replace it at every annual tune-up, change the filter and strainer, and finish with a combustion test.
Heating season is almost here on Long Island. When was your nozzle last replaced? Tell us in the comments, or send us a message to book your tune-up.
