Believe it or not... St. George Island once had cows!

Long before it became known for beach homes and family vacations, parts of St. George Island were used for cattle grazing. Ranchers would bring cattle to the island to take advantage of the open grasslands, and cattle raising was one of the island's early industries alongside turpentine harvesting.
