Wolter Legacy Ranch

Wolter Legacy Ranch Wolter Legacy Ranch is a 171 acre ranch located on the Lavaca River in Jackson County between Edna and Vanderbilt, Texas. We raise registered Beefmaster Cattle.

The ranch is home to Clay and Scarlett Wolter and their kids; Lauren & Hunter Wolter. Wolter Legacy Ranch was dream that started back in the late 1980s when Clay was growing up on his father's and grandfather's farm and ranch. Clay went to college to pursue a BS degree in Wildlife Management and a masters degree in Rangeland Management. Clay then went on to manage one of the largest ranches in Sou

th Texas (Kenedy Ranch) and worked there for 10 years. Clay then moved on to work for Helena Agri-Enterprises. LLC as a Range and Pasture Specialist where he continues to consult with landowners on their habitat and ranch management needs. During his travels across Texas, Clay met his beautiful wife Scarlett, and they resided in Boerne, Texas for almost 10 years. Scarlett is a Real Estate Broker Associate and has been in the real estate business for over 20 years. While living in Boerne, Clay and Scarlett began their family with a daughter, Lauren; and a couple years later their son, Hunter, was born. Overtime Clay's dream became the family's dream of owning their own ranch and raising their family in the country. It just so happened that the dream brought them back to the area Clay grew up. In 2020, the Wolter family found the 171 acre ranch and home on Koop Loop in Jackson County. Their dream had now become reality. Clay continues to work with Helena and Scarlett continues to sell real estate but their love is being able to raise their family on the Ranch and manage their small herd of registered Beefmaster cattle and their horse Flash. The family also enjoys hunting and fishing in the Lavaca river that is the East boundary of the ranch. Our Beefmaster cow herd started with 4 bred registered heifers and 1 registered bull. Our goal is to grow our herd and market registered show animals for kids to use for livestock shows and for producers to have purebred seedstock in their cattle operations.

Where the Kingdom Begins

Today’s Passage: Matthew 5:1-12

Highlighted Verse: Matthew 5:3

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

When many people read the Beatitudes, they see a list of qualities they should try harder to develop. Be humble. Be merciful. Be a peacemaker. While those lessons are certainly found in the passage, Jesus is teaching something much deeper.

The Beatitudes are not a checklist for earning God’s favor. They are a description of what citizens of His kingdom look like. They describe what God’s grace produces in the lives of those who belong to the King.

Jesus begins with a surprising statement:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit.”

To be poor in spirit is to recognize our spiritual bankruptcy before God. It is the realization that we cannot save ourselves, earn God’s favor, or stand before Him based on our own righteousness.

Once we understand our hands are empty, the Beatitudes unfold in a beautiful progression. We see our sin and mourn over it. We humbly submit to God and hunger for righteousness. God’s mercy begins to shape how we treat others. Our hearts are transformed, we pursue peace, and we remain faithful even when the world opposes us.

In many ways, the Beatitudes first describe Jesus Himself. He was perfectly humble before the Father, a man of sorrows, meek, righteous, merciful, pure in heart, the ultimate Peacemaker, and persecuted unto death. Jesus first lived these qualities perfectly, and by His grace He begins to work them into His people.

The Beatitudes remind us that the Christian life does not begin with what we can do for God. It begins with recognizing our need for Him and trusting the One who perfectly lived the life we never could. Jesus first lived these qualities for us, and now, through the work of the Holy Spirit, He is faithfully producing them in His people. As we walk with Him, the Father is conforming us more and more to the image of His Son.

Let’s Pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us our need for You. Help us to walk in humility, depend on Your grace, and hunger for the righteousness that is found in Christ alone. Continue shaping our hearts to reflect the character of Jesus in the way we live, love, and serve others. May our lives point people to Him and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection:

Have you ever considered that the Beatitudes are not merely qualities Jesus lived out perfectly for us, but also qualities the Holy Spirit is producing in those who belong to Him?

Where Does Assurance Come From?

1 John 5:13

“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”

When John says, “these things I have written,” he is pointing back to the entire letter of 1 John.

Throughout the book, John gives believers tests and reminders meant to strengthen assurance, not create endless fear and self-examination.

He speaks about believing the truth about Jesus Christ, walking in the light instead of loving darkness, confessing sin rather than hiding it, loving fellow believers, obeying God’s commands, and rejecting false teachings that denied Christ — all while continually pointing believers back to Jesus as their advocate and Savior.

His purpose is pastoral. He wants believers to see the evidence of God’s work in their lives while ultimately resting their confidence in Christ.

One of the greatest struggles many Christians face is assurance of salvation.

Questions like:
“Am I truly saved?”
“Have I done enough?”
“Have I said the right things or prayed the right prayers?”
“What else do I need to do?”

These often come from hearts that sincerely care about the Lord. But notice where the focus of those questions naturally lands.

The focus becomes centered on ourselves, our feelings, and our performance. And if peace is found there, then every failure, moment of pride, weakness, or careless word can steal our confidence and leave us filled with doubt and wondering where we truly stand with God.

That is why our assurance cannot ultimately rest in ourselves. It must rest in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross.

John says:
“These things I have written to you… that you may know that you have eternal life.”

Not guess.
Not constantly fear.
Know.

The Christian life is not about staring endlessly at ourselves wondering if we are enough.

It is about looking to Jesus.

Resting in Jesus.

Trusting in Jesus.

And knowing that our hope is found not in our perfection, but in His.

At the same time, we can trust that the One who began a good work in His people will continue shaping them into His image and carry that work to completion.

And as He works in His people, He grows in them a greater desire to know Him, follow Him, and walk in the truth of His Word.

Let’s Pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, help me keep my eyes fixed on Jesus and not on myself. Thank You that my salvation rests in His finished work and not in my own performance. Give me eyes to see You working in my life, and give me greater awareness of the convictions of the Holy Spirit as You continue shaping my heart to look more and more like Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
