Dear Sponsorship Committee,
Formerly known as Sacramento Synchronized Swim Team, Sacramento Artistic Swim Team (SAS) is a self-funded, California 501(c)(3) organization (FEIN # 94-3062185). Our program started at Arden Hills Country Club almost 35 years ago. Over the past three decades, SAS has built a legacy of top flight athletic training, shaping local girls into national athletes. Our team also emphasizes core values such as kindness and inclusion. We are dedicated to promoting
equity in the sport by offering a program for athletes with disabilities, and welcoming families from all backgrounds. Sacramento is one of the most diverse cities in America and we strive to reflect that diversity on our team.
We are a year-round, competitive synchronized swimming program that competes nationally, and are proud to be the only competitive artistic swim team in the entire Sacramento region. We have families that commute as much as 45 minutes to be a part of this team.
One of the challenges we face as a small non-profit in a high-cost sport is funding our program without taxing our families financially. During the pandemic we were unable to operate and as a result our membership dwindled. We also lost our home pool, Arden Hills, which was an ideal
central location for our commuting families. We've spent the last two years rebuilding our program and currently have twenty-five athletes. By comparison, the teams we compete against have hundreds of athletes. Many also have their own pools. Since losing Arden Hills, we have not yet found a home pool. Last year we had to practice at three different pools in three different cities--Sacramento, Elk Grove, and Natomas– and we didn't have a pool for two months.
Because it costs so much to heat pools in the winter, most of our public pools are closed from
November to March which means pool time (if available) comes at a premium. For example, the pool we are renting in December and January costs $680 for three hours of pool and locker room use on weekdays and $780 on weekends. We use a pool five days a week so this is a significant cost.
Coaching is also expensive because of the specialized nature of the sport and the many required components. Artistic swimmers get tested on strength, flexibility, acrobatics, swim speed, individual figures, and their team routines. There are very few people in our area who have the knowledge, ability, and time to coach. There are also several other programmatic costs like
travel, uniforms and costumes, and equipment (underwater speakers etc). These expenses would be more manageable if we could distribute costs across 200 families, but as things stand now, we are looking at having to ask families to fundraise thousands of dollars in addition to the monthly fees. We would also like to have scholarships available to make the sport more accessible.
We are requesting your help, so that we can mitigate the cost of the program per family this year while we continue to rebuild. If we lose people because the program is too expensive, this will in turn cost the remaining families more, and then we risk losing our program altogether. This
would be a huge loss for our team and for the community. We will be grateful for any assistance. Your sponsorship will allow us to provide:
A heated practice pool year-round
Coach training and development: As a nonprofit organization we are committed to finding and training the best coaches for our swimmers’ skill development
New suits: Our suits constantly need to be updated for new swimmers and routines
Team equipment: Ensuring all athletes have the necessary equipment needed to swim safe, train hard, and prepare for all competitions
In appreciation for your support, SAS will continue a high-level sponsorship experience by providing new venues to advertise your company, such as SAS emails, SAS website, and your logo on competition outfits and at SAS hosted events. Please consider one of our sponsorship levels listed on the next page
Checks can be made payable to Sacramento Artistic Swim Team. Payments can be mailed to: 3648 Buena Vista Dr. Sacramento, CA 95864. Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Mariam Purcell Board President
