As I reflect on this Fourth of July weekend, my heart is full.

Our little town of Elcho proved once again that small communities can do extraordinary things.

As our nation celebrated 250 years of America's story, Elcho celebrated in spectacular fashion. From the grand opening of the Elcho Grange Hall to the incredible local businesses, volunteer organizations, community events, the unforgettable street dance, and a fireworks display that rivals communities many times our size, our town welcomed residents and visitors alike with warmth, pride, and genuine hospitality.

It was an honor to be part of it.

Elcho has always been known for putting on an incredible Fourth of July celebration, and this year was no exception. Behind every event was a volunteer, a business owner, a sponsor, or a neighbor who gave their time and talents to make the weekend unforgettable. That spirit of service is what makes this community so special.

For me, this weekend carried even deeper meaning.

I was adopted when I was just 18 months old and later became a naturalized United States citizen. Becoming an American is something I have always treasured. This weekend reminded me that patriotism isn't just found in grand speeches or historic landmarks. It's found in communities like Elcho, where neighbors work side by side, traditions are preserved, and people come together to celebrate not only our nation's history but each other.

This is the America I know and love.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, organized, sponsored, donated, performed, served, and simply showed up. You made this celebration one to remember and reminded us all why Elcho is such a remarkable place to call home.

Here's to 250 years of America, to the traditions that unite us, and to the small towns that continue to keep the American spirit alive.

I'm incredibly grateful to continue my journey as a contributor for Lake and Company magazine! 📖

Last year, I had the privilege of sharing my article, "Beyond The Trails," in Issue 31, Where We Belong. It was an opportunity to tell a story about looking beyond the map, beyond the destination, and beyond the trail itself. Sometimes the best discoveries happen where the path ends. 🛤️
