This October, local theatre is showing up for PADS of Elgin.

Director Pat Henderson is leading two productions that connect the stage with support for the work we do here and the new beginnings we are able to witness.

🎭 From Dust by Eli Campbell runs Oct. 2–4 and 8–10 at The Lodge Performing Arts Center. Through “Stock Our Set, Stock Their Shelves,” real pantry items will be used as bunker set dressing and donated to PADS after the show closes.

🎭 Bullets, Nickels, Dimes and Life by Jeremy Kehoe runs Oct. 9–11 at Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley. The Oct. 9 performance benefits PADS of Elgin, with a complimentary reception featuring treats from Sugar and Rhyme Coffeehouse at 6:30 p.m. before the 7 p.m. show.

Both productions take place around World Homeless Day on Oct. 10, turning awareness into meaningful community support.

We’re grateful to Pat, the casts, crews and community partners using theatre to support PADS.

On Monday evening, members of the cast of Bullets, Nickels, Dimes and Life stopped by PADS of Elgin for a tour of the shelter before heading to Sugar and Rhyme coffeehouse for rehearsal.

We’re so grateful they took the time to see firsthand what happens here every day — from our sleeping spaces and case management offices to the resources and support that help our guests work toward stable housing.

This production is about more than putting on a show. The Friday, October 9 performance will benefit PADS of Elgin, helping provide shelter, meals and support for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in our community.

A huge thank you to director Pat Henderson and the entire cast for choosing to use their talents to support our mission — and for taking the time to learn more about the people and work behind it.

We’re still smiling after Hops for Homes Oktoberfest — and we now have an update to share!

At this point, we believe the event raised $15,771.75 for PADS of Elgin. Thank you to everyone who attended, sponsored, volunteered, donated, bought raffle tickets, participated in Fund-a-Need, or simply helped spread the word.

What a night! 🍻🥨

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Hops for Homes Oktoberfest last night and helped make it such a joyful evening in support of PADS of Elgin.

We were thrilled to sell out the event, and we are still tabulating the final amount raised. A few gifts are even still coming in from folks who had trouble getting the QR code to work last night!

From the b**r and pretzels to the raffles, stein hoisting, Fund-a-Need and plenty of laughter, we loved seeing our community come together around one shared purpose: helping our neighbors move from homelessness toward stable housing.

A huge thank you to Plank Road Tap Room for being such an incredible community partner, to Hofbräu for donating the b**r, and to all of our sponsors, raffle donors, volunteers and guests who made the evening possible.

We know there are many ways you could spend your time and resources. Thank you for choosing to spend some of them with PADS of Elgin.

Gracias a todas las personas que nos acompañaron anoche en Hops for Homes Oktoberfest y ayudaron a hacer de esta una noche tan especial en apoyo a PADS of Elgin.

This Labor Day, we’re celebrating the people behind the work.

At PADS of Elgin, our mission is centered around people—and our greatest resource will always be people, too.

Our shelter doesn’t operate 24/7, 365 days a year because of a building. It happens because our staff shows up.

They welcome guests, connect people with resources, help navigate housing, prepare meals, manage crises, coordinate volunteers, raise funds, solve problems and do countless things that make our mission possible.

Human services is labor-intensive because it is deeply human.

Recently, when a team member unexpectedly needed time away, the message from PADS leadership was simple:

“Go slow. Rest. Protect the asset.”

The asset was the person.

Caring for people can’t stop with the people we serve. The people doing this work deserve dignity, compassion, rest and support, too.

Today, we celebrate our incredible team and workers everywhere.

You are the asset. You are worth protecting.

Este Día del Trabajo celebramos a las personas que hacen posible nuestra labor.

En PADS of Elgin, nuestra misión se centra en las personas, y nuestro recurso más valioso siempre será nuestra gente.
