HELP ME DECIDE!

This kitchen is TINY and I have to fit a sink, dishwasher, stove, and fridge into it. (For reference: the fridge used to live on the back porch💀)

I’m down to 2 options:

1️⃣ Remove the wall, keep the layout: least disruptive, windows stay put. Downside: lose some sightline from the hallway, and the fridge ends up floating solo.

2️⃣ Remove the wall AND swap the kitchen/dining spaces — gets me a classic L-shaped kitchen with better flow. Downside: window swap required, dishwasher sits across from the sink in the island, and the stove ends up really close to bedrooms/bathroom.

Option 1 is cheaper and way less construction. But is Option 2 worth the extra cost to get it “right”?

This hoarder house bedroom was the was the scariest. It was completely collapsed into the crawlspace thanks to wood rot and termites.

It’s taken months but it’s finally sound, sturdy, and beautiful.

NOW we can finally get to the best part of the renovation. Follow along!

Here’s what you’ll never catch me doing. Even when it’d be faster, cheaper, or “on trend”:

🚩 Every wall the same greige (easy, yes. but boring)

🚩 4 different flooring types in one house

🚩 A kitchen that doesn’t function, just to save money

🚩 Painting over a problem instead of fixing it — I will always open the wall before I open a paint can.

🚩 Design that doesn’t match the era of the home

I always renovate so the numbers (and more importantly the house) still work in 5-10 years.

I’ve pulled cash out of walls, drawers, old boxes… this house has been full of surprises (some horrifying, some straight up shocking). This is all the cash (and gift cards) I’ve found so far during this renovation.

Yes, renovations are tough.

House 1 felt impossible. So did 2, 3, 4, 5 and now 6.

This is the first project we’ve taken on of this magnitude. It’s uncomfortable but I remind myself everyday to just keep going. The end result, the pride of hard work, and payoff are worth it ❤️
