Before closing
💡 Schedule your electric, gas, water, sewer, trash and internet services
🛡️ Confirm your homeowners insurance is active
📦 Arrange mail forwarding and update your address with important accounts
On Closing Day
🔑 Change or rekey every exterior lock
🔢 Reset garage door, alarm and entry keypad codes
🚨 Test all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
📸 Take photos of the home’s condition for your records
📊 Record your utility meter readings
Within the first 24 hours
💧 Locate and label the main water shut-off valve
🔥 Find the gas shut-off and learn how to use it safely
