A string of beautiful days this week afforded us an opportunity to bag some peaks in the calm of Acadia’s pre-season. Pemetic Mountain shows off its glory in these photos, even if it is probably the most overlooked high altitude peak in the park. Not because of our namesake borrow, but because of the +half mile ridge line hike is why Pemetic ranks high among our favorite Acadia hikes. It’s Halloween WEEKEND, don’t stop now! Frenchman Bay Conservancy and Ellsworth Public Library have teamed up to bring the 7th annual Pumpkin Hike to the Riverwalk trail along the Union River in front of the library in downtown Ellsworth. Check out around 40 carved pumpkins lit up and lining the trail tonight and tomorrow night. Which one is your favorite?

For those of you who can’t come to making an online reservation to drive up the Cadillac Mountain summit road, or simply prefer to be up there when it’s quieter, yesterday the road opened reservation free. This young porcupine we saw on the summit today (yes, summit) falls into both categories….no thumbs to operate Rec.gov and doesn’t care for crowds. Go get up there before the road shuts for the Winter!
