WARD FIRE UPDATE – Ely, Nevada

The is currently estimated at 1,800 acres and 0% contained.

Firefighters made solid progress during overnight operations, successfully holding portions of the fire along the lower eastern flank of Ward Mountain. Crews will continue to build on those gains as conditions allow.

Additional firefighting resources arrived overnight, increasing personnel assigned to the incident to more than 150 firefighters.
Resources currently assigned include:
• 6 Engines
• 4 Dozers
• 4 Hand Crews (including 2 Interagency Hotshot Crews)
• 2 Water Tenders
• 1 Task Force
• 5 Helicopters (including 1 Nevada National Guard helicopter)
• A local Type 3 Incident Management Team

continue to work in steep, rugged terrain under hot, dry conditions with receptive fuels, making suppression efforts challenging. Public and firefighter safety remain the highest priorities as crews work to contain the fire.
