Tough news for the sea turtles, though Emerald Isle's beaches weren't as damaged as those elsewhere.

The Topsail Turtle project has announced that one nest beat the odds, hatching during Hurricane Erin despite the high ocean water at the beach.

The Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Patrol reports a total of 22 nests this year, with most expected to hatch in the coming week...

The Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Patrol reports a total of 22 nests this year, with most expected to hatch in the coming weeks. Oceanfront property owners are asked to turn off any oceanfront lighting for the next several weeks, as excessive lighting can cause newly hatched sea turtles to become disoriented. The Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Patrol also offers FREE turtle-friendly light bulbs. T
