Overall, a pretty good article. Myth #5 and #6 are definitely of note. My clients ask me all the time, "if I add 'such-and-such' amenity to my house, how much will it bring the value up?"

This is really a two part question. First of all, for most people, a house is more than just an investment. It's your home. It's a place where you create memories, celebrate life's triumphs, and spend time with those closest to you. Before you start adding things just to increase the value, first think about what you actually want in the home. Are you planning on being there for the next 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? If the answer is 10 or 20, then maybe don't worry too much about the investment side of it now and do whatever it is that's going to make you LOVE coming home every day.

On the investment side, there are definitely things that you can do to up the value of your home. But before you jump into the project, it might be a good idea to call your local appraiser or a trusted Realtor to give you some tips on what would add the most value in your neighborhood.

You might be confused about just what, exactly, helps add value to your home in the appraiser's eyes. We're here to clear it up for you.
