Do you have a crawl space or basement? Consider installin a high water alarm to alert you of plumbing leaks. You can purchase these for as little as $25 and they are easy to install. Most have a lead wire that will sound the alarm when it comes in contact with water.

It is not recommended that roof vents be covered in the winter. Here is why: Ventilating attic spaces in winter months is often more important than venting them in summer. Water v***r from the inside of a home can drift up and into an attic space. If this water v***r is not quickly exhausted to the exterior atmosphere, it can often condense upon the cold roof framing members and the underside of the roof sheathing. It can get so bad that water can drip from the underside of the roof and when the temperature gets low enough, frost can actually form up inside the attic. Moisture conditions such as this can lead to wood rot and mold growth

With the cold weather upon us protect your home by unscrewing your water hoses from your outside faucets. The hoses prevent your outside faucets from draining and could allow the water in them to freeze and burst the pipe inside the wall of your home.
