At Chrisman Development, we are deeply passionate about giving back to the community. We strongly believe that providing local students the opportunity to pursue higher education is one of the best ways to give back to our community here in Wallowa County.

That is why, through the Chrisman Scholarship Fund, we are awarding six $5,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from Wallowa High School, Enterprise High School, and Joseph Charter School.

To qualify, you must be:
-A graduating senior from Joseph, Enterprise, or Wallowa High Schools.
-Planning on attending a community college, university, or accredited technical/trade school full time.
-There is no minimum GPA, SAT scores or FAFSA required!

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of Fenner Apartments, a two-property rehabilitation project in Gold Beach, Oregon! This community includes 34 affordable housing units, which have now been preserved for years to come thanks to the support of USDA Rural Development and Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS).

Through this rehabilitation, residents are benefitting from a variety of upgrades, including:

✨ Energy-efficient improvements such as new mini-split heat pumps, LED lighting, Energy Star appliances, and upgraded insulation.

✨ Accessibility enhancements with new sidewalks, parking, and renovated units.

✨ Quality-of-life upgrades including new siding, roofing, durable flooring, landscaping, and refreshed community spaces — plus new park benches for residents to enjoy.

At acquisition close, the property was renamed Fenner Apartments in recognition of the Fenner family, who owned these homes for generations. This preservation ensures that the community continues serving families in Gold Beach for years to come.

Last week, Chrisman Development team members attended the Farmworker Housing Conference at the beautiful Skamania Lodge in Stevenson, Washington.

We were proud to see Ryan Sheehy of our sister organization, Fleet Development, present his expertise on solar development for affordable housing. His presentation offered valuable insights into the many benefits of incorporating solar and how to effectively source funding for these systems. Great job, Ryan!

While on the road, our team also visited several of our development projects, each at different stages of progress. The properties are in Pendleton, OR; Boardman, OR; Cascade Locks, OR; The Dalles, OR; and White Salmon, WA.

The trip was both inspiring and educational, and we return more motivated than ever to continue developing quality, sustainable housing for rural communities.

Kindness Citation MCFR-00026

There is something awe-inspiring about old buildings. The Commodore II in The Dalles is one such place. Built in 1910 as the Masonic Temple, the building was later converted into residential and commercial space. This building is listed on the National Historic Register.

This building is now managed by Caitlynn from Viridian Property Management. Being a former Oregon Department of Forestry Firefighter, Caitlynn recognizes the importance of pre-planning for emergencies and conducting safety inspections. In support of the MCFR Fire Officer Development Academy, Caitlynn graciously opened the doors to the historic 48,800 square foot, 4-story structure for our new officers to better understand company level inspections, building construction, and the importance of pre-fire planning.

The Kindness Crew with Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue were honored to issue her a Kindness Citation for helping make our community a safer place to live and work. After being cited Caitlyn shared, “This was a great experience, also great for our community. I love helping and never thought I would get a kindness citation for just striving to be a better person everyday.”

Last week, we celebrated the groundbreaking of Nebraska Trail Apartments, our newest affordable housing development in Grants Pass, Oregon. This new construction project will consist of 51 much-needed units to the community and will feature two playgrounds, bike racks, and a community room for residents. Nebraska Trail Apartments is made possible through funding from Oregon Housing and Community Services’ LIFT program, along with several loans and grants from the City of Grants Pass. We are also grateful to the Josephine Housing and Community Development Council for providing essential Project-Based Rental Assistance for this development.

We want to extend our sincere thanks to all the partners and community members who made this project possible. We appreciate everyone who took the time to attend the groundbreaking ceremony, as well as those who spoke and contributed to the event. A special thank you to Viridian Management and AB Chase Construction for their efforts in helping coordinate and bring this event to life.

We are excited to watch this project take shape and look forward to what’s ahead!
