We know that today can be filled with a lot of big feelings and that Mother’s Day looks different for everyone.

Some of us have stories that were shaped by the love of someone other than a mother: A grandmother who taught you how to make a cherished family recipe that your kids still ask you to make on repeat. An aunt who accepted you as one of her own. A friend’s parent who quietly made room at the dinner table for another plate, or packed extra snacks for lunch—just in case. A neighbor who always welcomed you in with a warm smile and sent you home with a little baggie of baked goods.

Maybe you’re celebrating your first Mother’s Day as a new mom, or grieving the loss of what could have made today a celebration. Whether today feels happy or heavy (or maybe even a mix of both), we’re holding space for whatever your day may look like. When it comes to cooking at home, your space should work with you, not against you.

We partnered with plant-based Chef Bai (AKA classically-trained chef and best selling cookbook author, Bailey Ruskus) to put that idea to the test in a SHAWOOD kitchen at our Sommers Bend community in Temecula.

The delicious result: creamy polenta and smoky sweet potato chorizo with lentils, garnished with cherry tomatoes on the vine, perfectly blistered in the Monogram Five-in-One oven.
